I took a white Christmas tree and combined it with a plethora of rainbow colored ornaments I had stockpiled away. Thus our \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.thethingaboutdaisies.com\/2011\/11\/decor-christmas-treenow-with-more.html\" target=\"_blank\"\u003Erainbow tree\u003C\/a\u003E was born.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003ESince then our tree has been posted and reposted on Pinterest and other various sites many times over. At this point the tree usually doesn't even link back to this blog. A tree lost in translation.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe good news is the tree is alive and well. Going strong so many years later. I have moments where I think maybe we'll change it up, but then I re-fall in love with the tree all over again. So every year it goes up and slowly gets decorated color by color, starting from the top. For once stores having their holiday accessories out, just as Halloween wrapped up, paid off. \u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EOn a random wandering of Target, because it's what I do as an adult, I ran into the trickling out of Christmas trees and all of their accoutrements. I did my usual wanderings to see all of the new things only to have my eye caught by a shimmering star topper that spun color onto the \"ceiling\" of the visual box it was displayed in. Along with pleading. And whining. Really anything I could throw at him to somehow make that tree topper come home to live with us. All that was needed was another trip back to Target, this time with Nate it tow, to show off the the tree topper of epic-ness in person. Also known as the \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.target.com\/p\/lit-led-projection-star-tree-topper\/-\/A-15723955\" target=\"_blank\"\u003ELit LED Projection Star Topper\u003C\/a\u003E. My name for it is so much better.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: \u0026quot;verdana\u0026quot; , sans-serif;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: \u0026quot;verdana\u0026quot; , sans-serif;\"\u003ELet's just say that this topper sat in it's box taunting me for almost a month as we finally finished getting our house put back together from the summer basement flood. Which is another\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/span\u003E\u003Ci style=\"font-family: verdana, sans-serif;\"\u003Elong\u003C\/i\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: \u0026quot;verdana\u0026quot; , sans-serif;\"\u003E\u0026nbsp;story for another time. As we scrambled to get the last bits and pieces of a destroyed house put back into proper places, so that we could enjoy Thanksgiving with friends, the white tree may have found it's way into the house. Before Thanksgiving. GASP. Well because I wanted to recreate it. For someone who's always had a fresh cut tree (up until two years ago), this was an out of left field desire. You see them everywhere...Anthropoligie has had some amazing ones, but I could never bring myself to fork over the money for one. Especially when we have an Emmett who likes nesting in the bed. All I could ever picture was him slowly ripping appart the gathers. Even this one from Target ran $100...and that just hurt, especially when we have a our nice gray\/yellow bedding and our other $25 Target bedding. Shocking I know. I've been trying to keep busy around the house, which has been fairly easy with all of this rain we have been getting. Though it was putting a major damper (ha get it!?) on getting any yard work done. \u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003EAnd by yard I mean the tiny little fenced in area that the properties call \"yards\".\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: center;\"\u003E\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/9FFE5.jpg\"\u003E\u003Cimg style=\"cursor: pointer; width: 450px; height: 597px;\" src=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/9FFE5.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-size:85%;\"\u003EWhat our yard looked like when we moved in.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe older homes, which we are in, don't have large yards like a lot of the new housing does. But really it wasn't that big of a deal to us. What was annoying me though, was the mud patch that we were growing. Yes mud patch, because there was no way grass would ever grow there. Though the properties managers swear up and down that grass is supposed to grow there.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EWe never really messed with our back yard much. Our patio set was out there, but that was about it. We didn't even use our patio table till this past St. Patties Day when it doubled for a beer pong table. I was able to get all of the weeds pulled in about a week. Yeah, there was not enough weeds for it to have taken that long, but there was rain...lots and lots of rain.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: center;\"\u003E\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/home-and-garden.webshots.com\/photo\/2164759890060880919LJHXpD\"\u003E\u003Cimg src=\"http:\/\/inlinethumb05.webshots.com\/47684\/2164759890060880919S500x500Q85.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3232\" \/\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-size:85%;\"\u003EPay no mind to the very dead tree.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003ESo once it finally got to the point where the weeds were gone, I realized that I should probably figure out what I wanted to do back there. Luckily for me, the self help store that we have was offering 3 free bags of mulch to everyone who lived in the housing. I, of course, love free things. I got my free mulch and then stopped at Home Depot for some weed blocker fabric and set to work. After that, the next family that moves in can deal with it. Also, because this is only going to be something that we enjoy for a year, I wanted to keep it fairly cheap. The yard sat that way for the next week because of all of the rain. Can we say constant downpour?\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThen two days ago I went back to Home Depot and got more mulch. Which meant that yesterday I was able to finish the backyard. It also helped that it was sunny out all day. The process went fairly quickly. Who is outside ALL THE TIME. Who also digs along the fence, sending dirt and poo onto our sidewalk. So while that side area looks a million times better, I was worried about it getting kicked all over the place. So Nate and I ran to Home Depot...one more time...and got cement edgers to place along the fence. It peaks out just enough to catch your eye. We also moved the grill out onto the newly mulched \"lawn\". Which helped make the area look larger. All I have left on my wish list is a new umbrella and some more lighting. Though the lighting might happen today if I can con Nate into getting some solar powered lights that I found at TJ Maxx.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EI'm now actually looking forward to warmer weather, because we have another place where we can hang out. Somehow as were were setting up our house, furniture just kept finding homes. Which is such a relief. The leaf rug was originally in our living room back in Albuquerque, but we didn't need it here because of the carpeting. \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.thethingaboutdaisies.com\/2009\/11\/cabinet-is-done.html\"\u003EOur repainted china cabinet\u003C\/a\u003E also makes a reappearance.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EOf course the biggest thing is the stripes on the wall. After \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.thethingaboutdaisies.com\/2009\/12\/my-shimmering-wall.html\"\u003Eswearing off doing stripes\u003C\/a\u003E ever again...\u003Cbr \/\u003EI went and did them again anyway! I even used paint from Ralph Lauren's Regent Metallic line, which I already had.
