Fashion: My goal dress

My good friend and swimming buddy knows all about my desire to lose weight and to get back into cute clothing (especially dresses). This of course lead her to recently asking me if there were any specific items of clothing that are helping push me towards my goal.

Of course I said yes.

There are actually quite a few different dresses that I can't wait to feel the zipper go up on, but that's mostly because I own a lot of dresses I don't currently fit into. While I would have to pull out my Rubbermaid boxes with all of my skinny clothes to look through what I have, there is one dress that sticks out in my mind. Funny thing is...it is yellow and we all know how much love that color has been seeing from me!

Anywho, the dress is from Betsey Johnson, who lets face it makes amazingly fun, girlie dresses. I found it in her store at the Dallas Galleria 4 years ago and it was instant love. It has everything this girl loves...a halter neck, pleats, movement, spin/swirlability and polka dots!

Seriously, put polka dots on something and I will buy it!

Same dress, but in black. Just look at it swirl! {via}

This thing is knife pleated and pin tucked to sheer perfection! {via}

A few years after I bought this dress "House Bunny" with Anna Faris came out. In one scene she stands over a manhole cover and puts on her best Marilyn Monroe...but instead burns her who-ha. But as she stood there...with that dress puffing up I realized that she was wearing my dress!

This dress does just that...it makes you want to pull and Marilyn, to spin, to be just down right feminine in every way. When I wore it I felt happy. It was full of life and everything wonderful about warm weather.

I cannot wait till I can fit in it again. When I hit that size, you will find me wearing it proudly and giddily. I'll even try to not burn my va-jay-jay!

Fashion: Behold BHLDN

I know everyone in the blogging fashion world has been posting about this, but I just couldn't help myself. I mean after all one of my all time favorite clothing stores, Anthropologie, just opened their wedding shop called BHLDN.

I am smitten.

I have a huge desire to remarry Nate just so I can wear a dress from them. Actually there is one dress in particular that I want and it's called the Pleated Fantasy Gown.

I do, have and always will love the dress I wore at our wedding, but I am dying over this dress. The details, like the little buttons trailing off to the side of the dress on the back. The color, perfectly sliver-y gray...which by the way is the color I really really wanted in a wedding dress. It would have been perfect for our silver and red wedding. I just cannot get enough of this dress! I also doesn't hurt that they styled the model perfectly. I probably would have copied this look down all the way down to the jewelry and hair, but I still would have had to wear my perfect red shoes! I mean duh!

Honestly go look at the store. Even if you're not married! They have wonderful bridesmaid dresses...which you could use in the real world and accessories worthy of being worn all the time.

I'm now beyond smitten and have moved on to slightly jealous of those that are planning a wedding and can shop this site...

Fashion: Getting back into accessorizing

Saturday night we decided to go our with friends for dinner. It was very last minute, but totally worth it, because restaurants around town were putting on a "restaurant week" which allows you to try new places for much cheaper then normal. We went to L'Auberge, a local fine dining French restaurant.

The fine dining part, of course, sent me into a tailspin of panic. What's a girl to do when she has tons of dresses...that don't actually fit currently!? Luckily, there was a shining hope in my closet. A yellow/taupe color block dress that I bought from Ann Taylor last spring. Even better...it fit perfectly and I didn't feel fat in it! Side note: Sometimes it's really amazing what even a ten pound loss can do for your body.

As soon as I settled on the dress, the rest of my outfit just fell together. I just love it when that happens. I even got excited about accessorizing, which hasn't happened in a long time. Because of the high cut of the neck, I decided against a necklace. Instead I went with some brooches, which I clumped together and pinned, off center, onto the belt of the dress.

All of my brooches are antique/vintage with aurora borealis stones. Actually...on one I used a fun "cheat" that I love doing when I can...

...the smaller round one on the top is actually a clip on earring! It's such a great way to incorporate them into your wardrobe. I also love clipping them onto shoes for some added fun! So now you have a few ideas for what to do with them if you collect full vintage sets of jewelry!

It was a fun night. Not only was it great to get to try a place that we may have never normally eaten at, but I also was able to pull myself out of my outfit funk. Ever since I gained my weight, I haven't been as in love with putting together outfits, which I lived for. So it was nice to be able to put together a whole look and know that I still have an eye for style!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Fashion: My Lucky Break

Say hello to my new friends...

They are my new pretties (Lucky Break) from Kenneth Cole. Which means that this is the first pair of shoes that I have bought in over 6 months! Lets just say that they were a little pick me up for a long trying week.

I so can't wait to pair these with ankle jeans!

You can buy them here.

Anniversary outfit

Our two year wedding anniversary is upon us (October 12), but seeing as it's in the middle of the week, we decided to celebrate tonight. We went to our favorite go to, The Melting Pot.

It seems like every Melting Pot we've ever been to has always had a different dress code. When we lived in Albuquerque people would show up in jeans and a t-shirt. Though we would never do that, we also didn't like sticking out like a sore thumb, so we'd try to go dressy, but not over the top. We decided to go that route tonight. Nate was in lightweight trousers and a button down. While I decided to pay tribute to our wedding colors (Pewter and crimson red).

Both my purse (not exactly the same as the one I used in the collection) and my shoes were what I wore at the wedding. I thought it would be fun to break those back out to reminisce. Currently I am in love with both Boxom's "Stay-There" eye shadow and Kat Von D's lipstick in Adora, but I will save those for later reviews!

It was great getting the chance to go out with my husband. I love him so much, and can't believe it's only been two years. Honestly it feels like we have been married much longer, in a good way. I can't wait to see what the future holds for us!

Fashion: Monday Shoes

Today's shoe is one that I love because it has a slight vintage feel to it. If you know me at all, then you know I am a sucker for for vintage clothing (30-60's). At the time I had the choice of getting this Nine West shoe in a cream and black or a cream and salmon color. Of course I went with the more unique of the two color combos. I love pairing this shoe with pencil skirts and of course it would be perfect with cardigans (if only I wore those).

Decor and Fashion: Weeked haul and other things

Productive weekends are always nice. After a shopping trip on Saturday, we came home with more stuff from Target. Damn that place and their awesome deals and goods. I was able to get the last few things I wanted for our bathroom!

IMG_0885
Finally a place for our hand towel! Can I just say how much I love Umbra? They have some of the best designs around. Not only does this hold a towel, but it has the bowl at the bottom to hold jewelry.

I also got all of the things I needed, at Michaels, to put together the brush holder that I saw over at Life with Lulu.

IMG_0879
I went with 2 thinner vases, because it will fit better on the ledge once I move my perfume (I'll get to that in a second).

IMG_0880
Michaels had a lot of different vase fillers, but I went with the smaller clear beads. One bag was enough to perfectly fill one vase.

IMG_0884
One vase holds all of my eye brushes and the other holds all of my face brushes.

Here's the great mirrored tray I found at Target. I'm going to use it for displaying my perfumes on the dresser in the bedroom. Once I have it set up I will snap a picture of two and post it.

While I am on a clothing purchasing hiatus, I may have snuck in an accessory purchase. Say hello to my beautiful new purse from Radley (by way of TJ Maxx). I had never heard of this company, but after some research on the brand, I'm very very excited to have found this purse.

Funny thing...for as many purses as I have, I have never owned a black purse that isn't a clutch of some kind.

IMG_0886
The leather is butter soft. As in I may have been petting it as I carried around TJ Maxx and after I put it into use. The black is one of those blacks that change colors depending on the lighting. While in the store I would have sworn that it was a dusty teal color, yeah not so much.

IMG_0890
This cute little puppy is the companies "mascot". He dangles from all of their items and can sometimes even be found as part of the purse.

IMG_0892
Polka-dots *swoon*. I may have bought the purse just for this fabric. Hello way too cute purse that I love a lot. It might be hard to see, but some of the accent leather is a dark gray. Swoon all over again!

Other than the shopping and organizing I did try to paint my nails. I was apparently having a 5 year old day and slopped nail polish all over my fingers. Major nail fail. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow.

What were your weekend hauls?

Fashion: Monday Shoes

Terra Plana was a shoe company that I lucked into finding. Not all of their shoes are exactly my style, but they always have a few that I lust after. The great thing about them is that they try to be as eco-friendly as they can be. They use as little glue as possible, use natural dye and also use recycled fabric in some of their designs. Bonus...they are crazy comfortable! I own a few of their shoes and I love them all. Today's shoes are the most recent addition to my collection. The color is wonderful and they totally make me think of spring.

Today's shoe is a basic, with a punch of color. Every shoe wardrobe has to have a few good basic shoes, both in color and shape. This shoe has a great pointed toe, that is rounded off a little. Also I enjoy a slingback with a dress or skirt. It gives off a lighter look, while still looking pulled together. While I already had some good basics, I liked the idea of color of this shoe which is a deep red and if you look very closely you can see a slight shimmer to it.

Fashion: Look what I found

It's amazing what I find when I go through the laundry pile in the laundry room. Usually it's just a lot of towels or sheets. Yesterday as I was working through the pile I found my amazing coat purchase. Why was it in the laundry and buried? Well, it's a white denim coat and it had seen the floor a lot at TJ Maxx. So when it came home, it got placed on the laundry pile and slowly fell back to the bottom. When I found it yesterday, it went straight into the wash and came out looking brand new!

I had seen it at the store a few times. It was one of those ugly duckling jackets that just kept getting passed around. The day I bought it, I found it laying on the ground. I was just going to pick it up and put it back, because a size small does not fit me right now. I caved and tried it on...and it fit, really well. Then there was the price...$20 for a Calvin Klein trench coat. Yes please!

IMG_0799
IMG_0802
Try not to mind the wrinkles, I just got it out of the dryer and haven't had the chance to steam it.

IMG_0800
I love the dip dyed/tie dyed feeling the bottom of the coat has. In person the color is a bright aqua and jungle green.

IMG_0804
IMG_0805
Not going to lie, the inside lining was a huge selling point for me. Isn't it amazing?

So for $20 I'd say I did pretty well. Plus now that it's washed it can now be put into rotation!

Okay...back to more laundry.

Fashion: Weekend haul and TRIA news!

This weekend went by way too fast! Can I have a do over? I accomplished a lot of nothing. Oops.

I hit up our Urban Outfitters, which I hardly ever do because the sales people are extra "too cool for school" and I don't have any desire to put up with that. I did my quick pop in, with no one saying a word to me, but watching me and everything I touched. Judging me. That's fine, because I found two great tops with shimmer. Yep here I go again with the shimmer.

IMG_0782
I originally picked this up in a solid black, but found that it also came in patterns. I decided on this pattern, because really I am not a fan of a floral. Plus I thought this would be really great with a bright colored skirt.

IMG_0784
I like that the bold colors are little muted, like the shirt has been washed a few times.

IMG_0786
Of course the back was a big seller. The lace has a silver thread running through it, giving the shapes a pretty definition.

IMG_0787
I'm a sucker for yellow. I know it's a hard color for a lot of people to wear, but for once my pale pasty skin has paid off. I also love that I can wear this with a skirt or a blazer.

IMG_0789
I like the bib shape of the beading detail as well as the organza inset. I'm all about textures.

I also hit up TJ Maxx just to look around. Sadly nothing that exciting.

IMG_0791
These will be for sleeping only...or if I need to do cleaning around the house. These will not see the light of the outside world. Short shorts are something I think people should keep to themselves.

Now for the exciting thing I got in the mail...

IMG_0792
My Ann Taylor dress came in the mail today! I was so happy that I got to use the 40% off on it. So worth it! I swear it has better shape then it does here. I literally just pulled it out of the bag it was shipped in. The yellow is a great lemon yellow and the other color is a taupe or mushroom.

IMG_0793
The belt stretches and the material is like a flowy satin, with less shine.

IMG_0794
Love the zipper in the back. As you all know I am a sucker for an amazing focal piece on clothing.

Okay so this next dress is not a recent buy. In fact it was a birthday gift from Nate from September. It may or may not have gotten put in our office, which is quickly becoming our moving room collect all (I'll save that for a different post). I love this dress, so I thought I would share it with you.

IMG_0796
Lets try to ignore how awful the color looks here. It refused to capture the true violet color of the dress. It's a Calvin Klein dress. Can I just tell you how much I adore his dresses. They fit me amazingly. Drool.

IMG_0797
The sweet little button detail at the top. They give it such a vintage feel. Yummy!

Okay so if you've made it this far, congrats! Now for the exciting TRIA news! The FDA just gave permission for TRIA [PDF file] to say that the hair removal is permanent! How exciting and cool is that?! It makes me so excited to get back to using it!

Fashion: Monday Shoes

I just recently grabbed these shoes at a shopping trip to Marshall's, you'll find that I've gotten a lot of my shoes from either TJ Maxx or Marshall's. It's hard to pass up certain shoes when I know they are really well priced and that I don't have a shoe in this style or color. It's a sickness. These were hard to pass up because they are Sofft, which is a comfort brand and they were actually cute. Yes, the comfort shoe companies are finally figured out that they are allowed to make comfortable shoes that are cute. Go figure.

I'm a big fan of metallic shoes. You'll notice that I have a few sets of them. I like that you can use them as a neutral, while still being able to spice up the look of your outfit. I know I can always fall back on a metallic if I'm having troubles matching shoes up to an outfit.
