Crafts: DIY chalkboard plates and jewelry holder

I've recently been inspired by a few different decor/storage ideas that I have seen all over the internet and very recently at Pottery Barn. Funny how great little ideas get snatched up by larger companies. Two of those things are items that I looked at and thought I could do that. Of course that means I have to collect to supplies to "do that". Before I get ahead of myself, let me show you the two things I saw that made me think all of this.

I've actually seen quite a few different versions of the jewelry displays all over the internet. I'm not really looking for a necklace display, but I would love to make one for all of my earrings. Right now I am on the hunt for the perfect frame, but after that I should be able to start that project. Amazing how hard it is to find the perfect frame when you are looking for it.

As for the chalkboard platters. I've already have the chalkboard paint from the cabinet project. All I needed was the plates, which I found at our local TJ Maxx and Marshall's. Most of them were on sale and when all is said and done I will have six plates (with paint) all for about $30. Far far cheaper than the $99 price tag for the two from Pottery Barn.

My plate choice thus far. I'm looking forward to scoping out plates at farmers markets, Goodwill's and vintage shops. I think it would look awesome on milk glass as well. Very excited to play with this look and use up the can of paint in the process.

As soon as I get the plates painted and ready, I will post about them!

Are there anythings that you have seen recently that you want or think that you can make yourself? Will you actually make them?
